Five men accused of mob justice murder appear in court
It is alleged that 70 members of the community attacked and killed three people in a mob justice incident.
The five men accused of the murder in a mob justice incident at Kagisanong Sports ground last Monday appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa magistrate’s court on Thursday.
Mandla Ngomane (43), Philip Mahlangu (47), Michael Nkoane (57), Thomas Mandima (66) and Mohau Jacob (66) were arrested last Tuesday and charged with three counts of murder.
Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said it is alleged that 70 members of the community attacked and killed three people in Hebron near Ga-Rankuwa.
“According to the information at our disposal, the trio were fetched from their residential places and taken to the sports ground where they were assaulted after being accused of committing burglaries around Kagisanong. The victims who sustained serious injuries, were certified dead at the scene.”
North West police commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena applauded the Hebron detectives for their swift response that led to the arrest of the accused.
Kwena urged members of the community to work with the police and report those who take the law into their own hands.
The accused are expected in the dock again on Friday, 17 April for a bail hearing.
