Tshwane SPCA worker back at work after attack

Workers at the SPCA were ambushed by eight men last week who jumped the fence of the premises and demanded money from them.

A Tshwane SPCA worker is back at work after an attack, from which he suffered a concussion, at the Waltloo branch last week Wednesday.

General Manager of Tshwane SPCA Waltloo, Dewald Wahlstrand, said Wonder is back at work and in good spirits.

“He is doing well and is back at work. His spirt is lifted and the other workers are also doing well.”

Workers at the SPCA were ambushed by eight men who jumped the fence of the premises and demanded money from them. The men were armed with a knife and a panga which were later found on the premises.

“The men broke the front door and went to the injured staff member’s room. They hit him on the head and caused a concussion,” Wahlstrand said.

He said since the attack they have managed to get extra security measures at the branch.

“We have received a lot of assistance. We managed to get the security gates installed.”

He said some people have assisted them financially as well with the installation of the gates and hinges, and in painting them.

The community’s assistance is much appreciated.

Wahlstrand also mentioned that the animals at the SPCA are doing well although some of the inspectors are overwhelmed by phone calls.

“We have been receiving several calls regarding dogs who are barking non-stop, those are calls for the metro. Our inspectors deal with cruelty to animals.”
