Waste collection to continue as normal

Have your dustbin out no later than 07:30 on collection day.

The Tshwane metro has reassured residents that waste collection would continue unconstrained during the Covid-19 extended lockdown period.

Tshwane metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba said they have noted a trend where some of the bins were left uncollected due to residents taking their bins out late.

He said residents should ensure that dustbins were outside their homes no later than 07:30 on the specific waste collection day in order to avoid missing the truck.

“There were a few incidents were residents took their dustbins out late and the truck had already driven past, so they assumed that it had not come to collect,” he said.

“If your dustbin is outside your yard no later than 07:30 in the morning weekdays on the day of collection, as per the normal schedule, it will be collected.

“This will help us ensure that no waste bins are left uncollected on the day of collection.”

He said uncollected bins posed a health hazard that has the potential to undermine the government’s efforts to curb the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

“In our endeavor to provide a hassle-free waste management service, we request assistance and cooperation from our residents.”
