TMPD makes another cigarette bust in the north

Four people were arrested for operating without a permit and selling cigarettes illegally.

Tshwane metro police arrested four people on Thursday, at a shop in Ondersterpoort in the north of Pretoria for selling cigarettes illegally.

Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said while TMPD officers conducting a lockdown operation when they responded to a complaint regarding the shop.

“On arrival they found four males operating a shop without a permit and were also selling cigarettes.”

Mahamba said boxes of cigarettes amounting to an estimated value of R55 000 were found.

“About R20 000 cash was also confiscated.”

The four men aged between 20 and 35 were arrested for contravening the Lockdown regulations and will appear in court soon.

The TMPD officers were applauded for a job well done.

Last week Tuesday about ten people were arrested by the TMPD when they seized cigarettes valued at over R1-million as they held lockdown patrols in Lyttelton.

Seven of the men appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Thursday on charges of contravening the disaster management act.
