Tshwane closes centre after second staffer tests positive

The Tshwane metro had to close it disaster management center (Pieter Delport center) after a second person tested positive for Covid-19

The Tshwane metro had to close its disaster management centre (Pieter Delport centre) after an employee from the emergency services department (EMS) recently tested positive for Covid-19.

This is the second positive case reported at the facility this week.

The 60-year-old assistant chief, who works in the emergency medical operations division, was informed of her results subsequent to a SAPS officer who tested positive for the illness earlier on Monday.

“As is the case with the previously reported case, she too is asymptomatic and therefore didn’t display any symptoms,” said head administrator Mpho Nawa.

“Contact tracing is underway.”

Nawa said all personnel who occupy the Pieter Delport centre have been tested and were directed to self-isolate for at least 14 days.

“They will be working from home in the meantime,” he said.

“As part of preventative measures in managing the pandemic, the official diligently followed the daily routine screening upon reporting for duty on-site which entails temperature scanning, completing a questionnaire and sanitising.”

He to assured the residents of Tshwane that measures were being implemented to flatten the curve and ensure that residents complied with level 4 lockdown regulations.

“Further details will be provided as developments occur.”
