Centurion toddler recovering after nearly drowning

Local dominee ask for prayers after his toddler nearly drowned last week in Centurion.

The parents of a Centurion toddler, who nearly drowned last week, pleaded with the community to pray for the four-year-old who was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

“We are asking the community for their prayers,” Janlo’s father, Emile Rademeyer, told Rekord over the weekend.

Rademeyer is a dominee at the Doornkloof family church, which also regularly updates the community on Janlo’s condition.

“The neurosurgeon was with Janlo on Saturday,” the church posted on their Facebook page.

“They are progressing slowly, but surely. The neurosurgeon is satisfied for now.

“Janlo’s doctor was also with him. Oxygen was 45%, nutrition was boosted from 10 to 30ml throughout the day.

“From Saturday evening they started to raise the body temperature 0.2°C per hour. They kept a close eye on his vital stats.”

Rademeyer said if the stats were not satisfactory, they would cool his body temperature again.

“When his body temperature is right, they will slowly reduce his sedation.”

Little Janlo’s mother, Carin, is a teacher at Laerskool Wierda Park.

The school’s headmaster, Louis Dekker, said that Janco’s temperature had since stabilised and was close to normal body temperature.

Dekker explained Janlo, the family’s youngest son, fell into a pool on the day.

“He was transferred to a specialist unit in Johannesburg,” he said.

“The following day, Janlo was moved from the isolation room to the paediatric intensive care unit where he was kept under an induced coma as part of his treatment.

“His family was doing well under the circumstances. They can’t answer all calls or messages right now but appreciate each one. They once again asked that you carry Janlo in your prayers.”

By Thursday, Janlo’s condition, including breathing, blood sugar and acid, had all improved.

His hands and feet also showed movement.

“We are very grateful to our school and our community who carried the family through the difficult times,” Dekker said.

Although Janlo was still in a critical condition over the weekend, his vitals were stable.

“Both specialists are satisfied with his progress and his oxygen uptake is improving very well.”

Janlo continues to improve every day, according to Dekker.

“His temperature was elevated throughout Sunday night and was very close to normal body temperature.

“His eyes, hands and feet moved a lot. He doesn’t like his oxygen pipe very much. Both specialists are cautiously excited,” Dekker.
