Tshwane bus services to resume

Tshwane bus services came to a standstill as bus driver tested positive for Covid-19.

The Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) will resume services on Tuesday, after they were temporarily suspended after a bus driver tested positive for Covid-19.

Three of the city’s depots, namely C de Wit, East Lynne and Pretoria North, were also closed to allow for the disinfection and deep cleaning of buildings and buses.

This was expected to have been completed by Sunday, after which occupation certificates were issued for the safe return of the employees, according to metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba.

“Closing the buildings and suspending bus operations helped tracing personnel who came into contact with the bus driver, who tested positive.”

The driver who tested positive was in self-quarantine while 19 drivers were self-isolating.

Bokaba said core staff returned to work at the three depots on Monday, to prepare for the scheduling of shifts so that operations could resume on Tuesday.

Tshwane head administrator Mpho Nawa apologised to commuters for any inconvenience caused by the suspension of bus operations.

“The coronavirus spreads rapidly and we had to temporarily close the affected depots and suspend bus operations,” he said.

“We acknowledge that customers were adversely affected by the suspension, but this was a necessary move to consider their health and safety, together with that of our staff members.”
