Strict measures enforced at Wonderpark shopping centre after Covid-19 outbreak

This follows after over 20 staffers employed in different stores at the centre tested positive for the virus.

Strict measures have been put in place at the Wonderpark shopping centre to curb the spread of Covid-19 following an outbreak in recent weeks.

“We would like to assure customers that Wonderpark shopping centre has strict measures in place after an employee at one of our 182 tenants/stores tested positive for Covid-19,” the centre’s spokesperson, Elizma Mouton, said.

She said two stores at the centre had undergone “pre-emptive deep cleaning” as a precautionary measure.

“Management strives to keep customers safe and they will also keep ensuring that all tenants adhere to these requirements,” she said.

This follows after over 20 staffers employed in different stores at the centre tested positive for the virus.

The staff are said to be in isolation.

“We would like to assure the public that every action we take to prevent Covid-19 from spreading in our centre is taken very seriously and we have taken all the necessary steps to keep our customers safe,” she explained.

Mouton said some of the steps they had included were sanitising stations at all of the shopping centre’s entrances. All customers must sanitise before entering the stores.

“No staff member or contractor can enter Wonderpark shopping centre’s premises before a proper screening has been done.”

She added that stores closed immediately for decontamination and sanitising if any positive cases were confirmed.

“In the event of positive cases, the stores close for decontamination and sanitising and a professional decontamination company will manage the process.

“Only when a certificate of compliance has been issued are they allowed to open doors again to trade,” Mouton said, adding that tenants also had to ensure employees who had been in direct contact with an infected employee had to self-quarantine for the compulsory period of 14 days.

“They must also be monitored for any symptoms of Covid-19 and will only be able to return to work if they have not contracted Covid-19,” she said.

Mouton further said tenants were responsible to report positive cases of their employees to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD).

Last week Rekord reported a whopping 16 employees at the Dis-Chem store in the centre tested positive for the virus while five others from the Absa Bank branch were also confirmed to have tested positive along with one other Game store employee.
