Tshwane launches WhatsApp line to improve services

It will be an added function to the e-Tshwane communication platform that allows homeowners, companies, property managing agents and tenants to interact with the metro.

The Tshwane metro has launched a WhatsApp line to share information with ratepayers and residents.

It will be an added function to the e-Tshwane communication platform that allows homeowners, companies, property managing agents and tenants to interact with the metro.

The WhatsApp service chat platform is operational with immediate effect through registering on WhatsApp.

“It allows the municipality to share, in confidence, and receive information from stakeholders,” said institutional building and shared services administrator Mmaseabata Mutlaneng.

“Ratepayers will be allowed to view and pay their bills via the platform as well as request application forms, access specific links and obtain contact information.”

He said ratepayers, who were not registered on the e-Tshwane service, were allowed to engage and perform most functions on the city’s WhatsApp platform.

Certain functions were, however, only available to registered users, such as making a payment.

“The introduction of this WhatsApp service chat will save customers time and money by allowing them to interact with the metro in a structured manner,” he said.

“This will enable convenient ways of making payments and promote improved visibility for the metro’s services.”

In addition, he said one would be able to view and apply for jobs through the e-recruitment link, get a summary of your utility account, and download forms to apply for or cancel services.

“The Covid-19 pandemic made the current administrators speed up ways of interacting with residents. A large proportion of the South African population use WhatsApp daily, so the app is a perfect conduit for communication,” said Mutlaneng.

Residents and businesses should save the number 087-153-1001 on their phones and WhatsApp the word “Hi” to access this service.

The application uses end-to-end encryption to guarantee privacy when engaging with the metro.
