Tshwane bus service halts service as disgruntled workers go on rampage

On Tuesday, municipal workers broke into Tshwane House in the Pretoria CBD, vandalising the building as well as emptying wheelie bins and trashing streets with litter.

The Tshwane metro halted its bus service on Wednesday, as the metro was hit by “appalling behaviour” by its workers.

On Tuesday, municipal workers broke into Tshwane House in the Pretoria CBD, vandalising the building as well as emptying wheelie bins and trashing streets with litter.

“We wish to inform Tshwane bus services and A Re Yeng bus commuters of the suspension of operations on 22 July, due to the protest action by employees affiliated to labour union Samwu,” said Tshwane metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba.

“This decision was taken for the safety of the drivers and commuters as well as to protect the metro’s assets.”

He said the situation would be assessed during the course of the day and a determination made over when operations would resume.

“Commuters are advised to make alternative travel arrangements and the metro would like to offer an apology to its bus commuters for the inconvenience caused.”
