Love, respect keep east couple ‘glued’ together for 60 years
Today, they are still living proof that unconditional love exists.
A Brummeria couple in the east of Pretoria recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Gerrit and Anna Visser exchanged their vows on 9 July 1960, in Eastern Cape in a small town called Venterstad.
The couple met at a youth centre while Gerrit was working at the department of water affairs and Anna at the department of education.
Today, they are still living proof that unconditional love exists.
Son Nic Visser said the secret to his parent’s successful marriage was respect and patience.
A very interesting fact about my parent’s relationship is that my father asked my mother’s hand in marriage over the phone while they were at their respective places of work.

Out of their love for each other, two children were born.
They have three granddaughters.
Anna said they did almost everything together including a lot of healthy communication.
My husband and I do not shy away from problems, we discuss them. If we had an argument we sit down and communicate about it respectfully, she said.

Rekord asked the couple how they managed to maintain a healthy relationship for six decades and Gerrit said: Love, trust and respect is what keeps us going.
My advice to young couples is that they should never allow arguments to terminate their unconditional love for each other.
Respect each other, love each other and trust each other, he said.
