Person killed as part of Moot shopping centre collapses

Paramedics are on scene treating several people who were injured.

A person was killed because of a structural collapse at the Jakaranda shopping centre in Rietfontein on Thursday.

Several other people were said to have sustained slight to serious injuries when the centre’s structure caved in.

Ambu-Link paramedics spokesperson Xander Loubser said 10 people sustained slight injuries while four sustained serious injuries.

“All of those who sustained injuries were transported to various hospitals by ambulance,” he said.

The cause of the centre’s partial collapse remained unknown.

Meanwhile, the centre’s management said they would revert to Rekord once they had more information.
