Man assaulted while riding bike in Moot suburb

The man said to be around 45, sustained a head injury along with multiple open wounds on his face and arms. A warning issued to cyclists in the area on social media said the attackers were trying to steal the man’s bicycle.

A man was seriously injured when he was assaulted while riding his bicycle along Gordon Road, between Queenswood and Colbyn, on Wednesday.

“He is in a very serious condition,” Lifeline Medical Emergencies said.

The man said to be around 45, sustained a head injury along with multiple open wounds on his face and arms.

“He was transported to Steve Biko academic hospital,” the emergency service said.

A warning issued to cyclists in the area on social media said the attackers were trying to steal the man’s bicycle.

“Please be careful. If you see any violent behaviour, please contact someone to help, such as Kilner Park Security (KPS),” the social media post read.

Meanwhile, KPS spokesperson Ancelize Van Der Kooi said they received the emergency call around 16:00.

“He was hit quite hard [with an object],” she said.

Van Der Kooi added that while they had speculation pertaining to which object was used in the assault, they cannot confirm this, as the man was unable to talk.
