More than 80 arrested in women-led police operations
Some of the arrests were executed after a shootout between suspects and police.
More than 80 people were arrested during operations led by women from various law enforcement agencies in Pretoria from Friday.
“Women from various law enforcement agencies in Tshwane arrested 81 suspects and five unlicensed firearms were recovered,” police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said.
In one particular incident, three people were reportedly arrested after a shootout between them and police.
“Police intercepted a Toyota Quantum with three occupants who started shooting at them.
“A shootout ensued and all three occupants were cornered and arrested after they were found with unlicensed firearms,” Masondo said.

The 78 other people were arrested for, among others, assault; malicious damage to property; theft; possession of suspected stolen property; possession of dagga and dealing in drugs.
Meanwhile, 39 other suspects were arrested for various crimes in separate police operations held at the weekend.
Moot police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt said the operations conducted in their seven precincts followed after various actions by police and other law-enforcement agencies.
“Suspects were arrested for crimes like assaults under the domestic violence act; business robbery; common robbery; violations of protection orders; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; reckless and negligent driving; shoplifting; possession of dagga and drugs,” he said.

Hundreds of other people were also arrested in parallel women-led operations which were conducted in other parts of the province.
Masondo said more than 137 suspects were arrested in Johannesburg, 163 arrested in the West Rand and another 148 people were arrested in Ekurhuleni.
