Downward daily Covid-19 cases trend attributed to public compliance

The Department of Health says more tests are being conducted in the province’s hotspots but daily cases seem to be on the decrease due to more people complying with health regulations.

The Department of Health reports that the low number of daily new Covid-19 cases could be attributed to people complying with regulations to curb the spread of the virus.

The department’s spokesperson Kwara Kekana said they noted the decrease in Covid-19 cases throughout the province.

“This could be attributed to multiple factors, e.g. greater public awareness and compliance to non-pharmaceutical interventions (masks, hand washing, etc.). Secondly, increased testing capacity, i.e., from 2 500 to 5 000 tests per day, using the targeted testing approach.”

On Tuesday the department recorded about 531 new Covid-19 cases in the province, this brought the total to 194 093 thus far.

The province’s Covid-19 recoveries stood at 150 082 and 2 653 Covid-19 related deaths.

The Department of Health said out of 95 937 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 76 631 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms, reported and were de-isolated.

The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 4 178.
