Two incidents were reported over the weekend.

“In the one incident, the robbers managed to flee by foot while on Sunday night two robbers were caught red-handed and arrested breaking into a business in Hennops Park.”

Lyttelton police spokesperson, Captain Dave Miller said they have picked up vehicle-related crimes are on the increase in the Lyttelton area.

“Specifically theft out of motor vehicles.”

Miller said the vehicles are being targeted at shopping centres and malls. Other current hotspots where vehicles are targeted include complexes such as

He explained a crime analysis was done around the Centurion Mall where a large number of incidents were reported in the past.

“A strategy was formulated in conjunction with the mall security and management which reduced the incidents drastically.”

Miller further said an analysis was also done on the greater Lyttelton area and a similar strategy will be rolled out throughout the area in aid to combat crime.
