Retired local footballer discusses new role with SuperSport
Thabo September, who is also United’s brand ambassador, said being part of the club’s technical team has been amazing thus far.
Retired SuperSport United defender Thabo September has recently shared his experience working with the technical team.
September, who is also United’s brand ambassador, said being part of the club’s technical team has been amazing thus far.
“My experience with the first team as a technical team member has been great, I feel this past season I’ve grown and learnt so much from Coach Kaitano Tembo and the rest of the team,” he said.

“The reception from the players was top class, I expected nothing but professionalism from all the boys.”
September, who has played with some of the current United players before hanging up his boots, said it was easy for some of the players to speak to him about certain issues.
“The relationship that they have with the coach is amazing and I came to add on that.
“My role is to assist the head coach with setting up for a session, communicate the coaches’ instructions to the players and learning from the head coach for my development in coaching,” he said.
During his playing days, the 38-year-old served as captain, helping United to three Absa premiership titles.
“It feels good to be part of the team on the field again. Coaching is definitely not as easy as playing but I’m learning faster.”
September has played with current United players such as Boalefa Pule, Clayton Daniels, Grant Kekana, Bongani Khumalo and Ronwen Williams.
“Ronwen is the one I’ve worked with longer and I am so happy for him and his family. Last season he was rewarded by being named the captain and I will assist him in any way I can, we have the best relationship.
“That’s the thing about this club: it looks after its own people. So in the technical team I have everyone that I worked with when I was still playing. Coach Kaitano, Andre, Bro Joe, Bro Bafana, Kobus De Wet and Grant Johnson they are all still around. The culture of the team will never be lost,” he said.
September also gave praise to the MultiDiski Challenge coaches for promoting a few youngsters into the first team.
“The MDC coaches at the club are doing an excellent job and they deserve to be praised for the talent they produced and the Academy coaches as well.”
