48 speedsters, drunk drivers arrested

“The highest speed recorded was 215 km/h in a 120 km/h zone by a 23-year-old male driver.”

At least 48 people were arrested for speeding and driving under the influence at the weekend.

In a statement, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said that of those arrested, 25 were nabbed for speeding while 21 others were caught for driving under the influence.

“The highest speed recorded was 215 km/h in a 120 km/h zone by a 23-year-old male driver,” RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane said.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old passenger was also arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe an officer as his friend was being arrested for speeding.

Another driver was also arrested for reckless and negligent driving.

Of those arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, the highest limits recorded were:

– 0,99mg/l by a 29-year-old male

– 0,9 mg/l by a 33-year-old female

– 0,9mh/l by a 43-year-old male
