Hail, heavy downpours predicted by SA Weather Service

Motorists are urged to be cautious on the road as heavy rain can reduce driving visibility.

SA Weather Service (Saws) has issued a potentially severe thunderstorm warning in Pretoria for this afternoon going into the evening.

Heavy downpours, localised flooding in low lying areas, large amounts of small hail, isolated large hail and reduced visibility has been predicted from 14:00 until 23:00, Saws said.

“More storm development is taking place over the West Rand and southern Gauteng moving eastwards. A yellow thunderstorm warning remains in effect for the entire Gauteng until late evening.”

Earlier Saws forecaster Mbavhi Maliage said rain was predicted for Pretoria until Wednesday.

“On Tuesday, expect a minimum temperature of 15°C which is expected to rise to 23°C. A 60% chance of rain is predicted in the morning.”

Wednesday will be cloudy with a 30% chance of showers and thundershowers. We are looking at a minimum of 14°C and a maximum of 22°C for Wednesday,” Maliage said.
