WATCH: Salvokop water pipe repairs to take ‘few days’
Tankers will be dispatched to parts of Pretoria as water supply is interrupted.
Residents in Sunnyside, Salvokop, Arcadia, Clydesdale and south of the Pretoria CBD can expect water supply interruptions as the Tshwane metro repairs a burst pipe “within the next few days”.
The 1 000mm diameter plastic pipe started leaking on Saturday, and was repaired by metro officials on the same day, according to spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
However, the pipe sprung another leak at a different spot on Monday, and it was decided to implement an already planned permanent solution.
“Repair work will be completed within the next few days, assuming there are no challenges of the weather and other setbacks,” he said.
Mashigo said the site work included measurement of the required material being procured, loosening and cutting off the damaged piece of pipe and preparing the site to lay the new pipe.
The damage prompted the municipality to shut down the Salvokop reservoir to replace the damaged section of the pipe with a new one.
