Police probe west triple killings

In one shooting, a 38-year -old man was found riddled with bullets lying in the street.

The Atteridgeville police are investing a “shooting spree” that happened in Jeffsville informal settlement, west of the township, on Sunday.

In the first incident, a 29-year-old male was shot and killed outside his home on Sunday afternoon.

“He was playing cards outside his house when two unknown men drew guns and fired shots, killing him instantly,” said Atteridgeville police spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso.

“During the shooting, two women, aged 25 and 29, were injured and taken to Kalafong hospital.

“A manhunt has been launched by the Atterdgeville police to trace the suspects,” she said.

In an unrelated incident, a 33-year-old man was shot and killed outside his home on Sunday around 20:00.

“He and his friend were sitting outside his house when a number of unknown men fired shots at them,” Rikhotso said.

“The man was shot four times and his friend was shot twice. The friend was taken to Kalafong hospital for treatment.”

Rikhotso said later that evening, around 23:00, police responded to another shooting in Jeffsville.

In this shooting, the body of a 38-year-old man was found riddled with bullets lying in the street.

“The two incidents are suspected to be connected, however, the motive is still unknown to the police,” Rikhotso said.

“The police are currently investigating the three murder cases and are tracking suspects responsible for the shootings,” she said.

Atteridgeville police station commander Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu condemned an escalating number of killings taking place in the informal settlement.

“The community of Jeffsville is encouraged to keep an eye out for any information regarding the spade of shootings taking place in the area.”

He encourages the community not to approach the suspects as they were armed and dangerous. Rather inform the police on 08600-10111.
