Local speedster returns after a career-threatening injury

His hard work, determination and patience paid off when he was named in the starting line up for the clash against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thapelo Morena recently returned to action after suffering a career-threatening injury in January.

The 27-year-old speedster suffered a fracture and ligament damage to his ankle during a game between Downs and SuperSport United.

The Bafana international player had to sit out the whole remainder of the season as he was nursing his way back to recovery.

Thapelo Morena returns to action.

His return happened during the bio-bubble, but he could not make an official return and had to wait on the sidelines.

The treble-winning season ended with Morena only playing fifteen league games, scoring two.

Morena also had a good run in the CAF Champions League, scoring two goals and managed eight assists in all competitions.

His hard work, determination and patience paid off when he was named in the starting line-up for the clash against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

The 27-year-old took to the field and showed his class, and he played his socks off to help Masandawana to a 3-0 victory over Amakhosi.

“It took the team, the management, doctors, friends and family as well as fans to see me back in the field. Thank you to each and everyone and the role each one played. It’s getting better each day and being back really reignited memories,” Morena said on his social media page.
