17 suspects behind bars for possession of drugs
Police urged parents to work with authorities to help their children who are hooked on drugs.
A total of 17 suspects were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs this week.
Police spokesperson Constable Lethabo Mashiloane said the suspects were arrested between 26 and 30 October.
Most of the suspects were caught through the involvement of the community with information given or a tip-off brought to the police station.
“Suspects who were arrested are aged between 26 and 37,” said Mashiloane.
Police arrested the suspects following a tip-off as well as with stop-and-searches conducted in Mamelodi east.
Mashiloane said the confiscated drugs was worth more than R30 000 in street value.
The police seized various kinds of drugs such as dagga and nyaope.

Mashiloane encouraged the public to continue working with the police in the fight against crime and removing drugs from the streets of Mamelodi.
“Residents need to work with us to identify these suspects who are harming our youth.”
Police further urged parents to work with authorities to help their children who are hooked on drugs.
“We can only achieve this if the community works together with us to keep the area free of crime and drugs,” he added.
“We feel it is important for us to engage with the community to root out all these problems. We believe by communicating with the community we will all know what to do.”
The arrested suspects will soon appear in the Mamelodi magistrate’s court.
He concluded by advising the public to report any suspicious looking person to the police.
