Mystery still surrounds ‘homeless’ man’s death
The unidentified man’s body was discovered by a community member.
A cloud of mystery still surrounds the death of an allegedly homeless man in Raslouw, Centurion, more than two weeks after he was found dead at a rubble site.
“We’re still waiting for the autopsy results,” specialist serious violent crimes investigator Werner Koekemoer said.
The unidentified white male, who is believed to be in his 60s, was found dead on Friday, 23 October, reportedly in a pair of blue jeans and a golf shirt.
“He had a string around his ankles and his hands were tied in front of his face,” Koekemoer said.
He added that it appeared, at the time that the body was under the gravel for “a day or two” already.
Police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma, however, refuted that the elderly man was found tied up.
Huma said the man’s body was found in a sleeping position.

Last week, Huma said the unidentified man’s body was discovered by a community member.
“It is alleged that one of the community members came to fetch some soil for his garden in the bush, when he noticed someone lying on the ground,” she said.
The elderly man was reportedly certified dead at the scene and had no injuries to his body.
“He was in a sleeping position with a blanket covering his feet,” she said.
An inquest docket was since opened for investigation.
“Anyone who can assist to trace the family can contact the investigating officer on 082-335-2479,” she said.
First responder and Gauteng emergency service spokesperson Rikus von Benecke clarified that the community member was at the rubble site to collect some gravel as he had just installed a swimming pool at his home.
The community member was reportedly loading the gravel onto his vehicle when he reportedly stumbled upon the unidentified man’s body.
“His feet and hands were tied up,” Von Benecke said.
Von Benecke said they were unable to establish the cause of death as the body was covered in gravel.
“The forensic pathology team transported the body for samples and more investigations,” he said.
