Bushiri says on Facebook he and wife fled SA
Police are yet to confirm that the self-proclaimed prophet and his wife have fled SA as he reportedly announced in a statement published on Facebook.
Self-proclaimed “prophet” Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary have allegedly fled South Africa.
This was according to a statement posted by Bushiri on his Facebook page on Saturday morning.
It comes a week after the couple was granted R200 000 bail at the Pretoria magistrate’s court.
In terms of the couple’s bail conditions, they were barred from traveling outside South Africa.
The Bushiris and three other co-accused are facing charges of fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
As I have stated countless times that Bushiri will run away once he is granted bail, the magistrate failed our government.
Secondly #bushiri is making impossible demands. He says he won't come back until they are met. #ExtraditeBushiri pic.twitter.com/QhzIvsDmGn

In the statement, Bushiri said that he and his wife arrived in Malawi, citing “safety and security reasons”.
“I would like to inform the general public that my wife and I are temporarily in our home country, Malawi, because of safety and security issues since 2015,” he said in the statement.
“These matters have gotten worse after we just got both our bails. “There have been clear and evident attempts to have myself, my wife and my family killed and despite our several attempts to report [this] to authorities, there has never been state protection. “Our coming to Malawi, hence, is a tactical withdrawal from the Republic of South Africa solely meant to preserve our lives.”
This Bushiri story angers me so much because it exposes how much of a banana Replubic we r,we have no backbone or leadership !
All arms of state are a joke ! We are soft & timid. That's why criminals do as they please here. It's not about pointing fingers, just facts#Bushiri

He said a press briefing will be held in Lilongwe, Malawi, in due course.
Police had yet to confirm whether Bushiri and his wife had indeed left the country.
