Maluleka talks about his time at Downs so far
"Competition is always good especially in an environment like Mamelodi Sundowns. You have to be at your best every time you get a chance."
Mamelodi Sundowns’ newly signed midfielder, George Maluleka, has spoken about his time at the club.
The 31-year-old joined the Pretoria club In July after making the move from Kaizer Chiefs.
“It’s been a good couple of months at the club and, like I said before, the team welcomed me with a lot of warmth. I immediately felt very good and positive about it so I’ve never looked back since. I just need to carry on working hard and helping the team move forward. All in all, it’s been great, especially the way I was welcomed.”
Maluleka has played two games in the DSTV Premiership and in both of those games, he came on as a substitute and has already had an assist.
“Yeah, so far so good with the matches. There’s still a lot of work to be done from my side, but it’s very early to tell. I’ve been doing well and working hard at training steadily to find my best self to help the team and make an impact. It’s a matter of confidence, but a lot of progress so far. I’m happy, but not yet satisfied – like I said, it’s still very early,” he said.

The former Bafana international did admit that there was stiff competition at the club
“Competition is always good especially in an environment like Mamelodi Sundowns. You have to be at your best every time you get a chance so it’s very good for the team as well. It makes us stronger as a collective and also pushes you as an individual,” Maluleka said.
He said his only focus and objective was to play football and avoid the media.
Maluleka, affectionately known as Mido, started his career with AmaTuks where he scored 10 goals from 28 appearances between 2006 and 2008.
His breakthrough came in 2009 after he moved to Ajax Cape Town. He was part of the young Ajax side which finished second in the league in the 2010/11 season.
Four years later, Mido made a switch to Kaizer Chiefs where he went on to play over 130 games and winning the league title in his first season.
