Tshwane slams RDP verification scam

We urge the public not to pay anyone for processing housing applications.

The Tshwane metro has slammed an RDP verification scam doing the rounds on social media, warning the public not to pay to process any housing applications.

“My office would like to categorically dismiss this false notice as an attempt to create confusion among residents. It is devoid of any truth and is a scam,” said Department of Human Settlements MMC Mpho Mehlape-Zimu.

The scam called on potential housing beneficiaries to come forward to “corroborate” their housing requests as from 1 March 2021.

Mehlape-Zimu asked residents, who applied for RDP houses, to approach Tshwane’s Department of Human Settlements for their housing needs.

Verification of housing subsidy applications and approvals falls under the Gauteng provincial government and not the Tshwane metro, she said.

“Procedure verification could not be done without consultation and coordination between the two spheres of government.

“There seem to be elements wanting to disrupt the good work that the current administration is doing with a view of discrediting and undermining much-improved service delivery.”
