Police conduct crime awareness outside west school

Motorists were told to be vigilant when dropping off their children in schools or daycare centres.

Pretoria West police conducted a crime awareness campaign outside Simon Bekker Primary School on Thursday morning.

The campaign was done in order to address the issue of theft out of motor vehicles after a number of incidents were reported by the school, said Pretoria West police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.

“Motorists were told to be vigilant when dropping off their children at schools or daycare centres. They should ensure that all their car doors are always locked and not assume their vehicles are locked when a remote control is used,” she said.

Criminals use car-jammers or sometimes as you lock with an alarm they slightly open the rear door unaware as most drivers rely on the flashing lights of the alarm.

Vuma said the campaign later moved to Souter Street at Allie‘s Electronics.

A number of theft of motor vehicles and out of motor were reported hence today, the station saw it crucial to sensitise motorist parking around the area and customers visiting the shop.

“A total of 350 pamphlets were distributed at both places, the school and at Souter Street,” Vuma said.
