Community support motherless children after fatal house fire
"I would like to thank everyone who donated and I want to urge them not to stop doing what they did for us."
A pastor, who has been taking care of the children whose mother perished in a house fire after an alleged quarrel over cash for booze with her boyfriend, has thanked the community for the support they have shown to the children.
The couple were found burnt to death in a shack in Jeffsville a month ago.
The woman’s children managed to escape the fire and are now in the care of a local pastor, Wiseman Nazo.
According to Nazo, the woman had said that her boyfriend had demanded money to buy alcohol.
“When the mother told him she did not have the money, he locked the burglar door, took paraffin and poured it all over the shack before setting it on fire.
“The children managed to escape,” said Nazo.
Nazo said the woman was buried in the Eastern Cape two weeks ago.
This after he requested donations for transport for the children and other youth members who have been supporting them following the incident.
Nazo said despite difficulties getting transport to the Eastern Cape, they managed to take nine of the people who wanted to go to the funeral.

“The children are still under my care and they are coping very well,” he told Rekord.
“They have also been doing very well at school; we have not received a word of anything bad from the school.”
He said he wanted to thank everyone who helped them go to Eastern Cape.
“The local councillor donated money along with other people. One person actually donated four tickets.

“I would like to thank everyone who helped. I want to urge them not to stop doing what they did for us. We were going through a difficult time and they really played a huge part; they tried to pick us up. Despite them not having much, they showed that they care, I wish they would continue to help others.”
Nazo said he will continue to look after the children for the time being.
Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said the exact circumstances leading to the pair’s deaths would have to be determined during inquest proceedings.
