Mams family gets help to rebuild family house destroyed by fire
A local ward councillor has helped the family out.
A local ward councillor has helped a family rebuild their home after it was destroyed in a fire in Mamelodi East last month.
The Masango family’s house caught fire during one of the load shedding episodes, three weeks ago, and four rooms burnt down to ashes.
Ward 18 councillor Tovey Masemola bought the family material to help restore the house.
He bought buckets of paint matching the house for painting inside and outside, aluminium windows, wooden door, and ceiling boards.
Masemola was attending a project meeting when it was announced at the meeting that a nearby house was on fire.
Masemola and the community members left the meeting and rushed to help put out the fire with water buckets.
Jacobeth Masango said she was happy with the community’s quick response.
She thanked a community member who rescued her 82-year-old mother whom was almost trapped inside the house when the fire quickly spread to other rooms.
Masango said she could not explain how the fire started where she always made coal fire when there was load shedding.
“I always make coal fire with a tin under shelter situated in front of the garage and it’s the safest place,” she said.
She suspected the wind might have blown sparks that caught the garage ceiling.
“The fire quickly spread on the ceiling and spread to the main house where my mother was. Three rooms were burnt,” said Masango.
The fire destroyed the kitchen, dining room, bedroom in the main house and one backroom.
Masemola said they tried by all means to help the family to have their family house back to its original state.

“We also contacted the social development to help the assist the family with food parcels and blankets,” said Masemola.
“We will continue assisting the family until the whole family is back on their feet.”
Masemola encouraged the public to help with any form of donations to help the family.
The family said almost everything was back to normal, and only the electrical wiring to the house needed to be repaired.
