Metro hosts webinar in pursuit of investments
“The webinar was also a platform to promote the industrial capacity of the city’s automotive production sector."
The Tshwane metro recently joined a multinational webinar with the aim of attracting investments.
“It targeted potential investors in the automotive sector from European countries,” economic development and spatial planning MMC Bruce Lee said.
The investor webinar was hosted by the Tshwane Economic Development Agency (TEDA), which drives economic and job creation in the Tshwane metro.
“In line with its mandate TEDA used the investor webinar as a vehicle to attract and facilitate trade and investment into the city of Tshwane,” Lee said.
The webinar was attended by over 50 stakeholders with a said total of 14 companies represented by 16 senior business officials.
“The majority of the companies were from Germany followed by the United Kingdom, Netherlands, France and Turkey,” he said.
Lee said that Europe was “by far” the largest global source of investments in the manufacturing sector in Tshwane and South Africa as a whole.
“The UK, Germany, Netherlands and France have ranked in the top 10 sources of investment for South Africa between 2015 and 2018,” he said.
These countries were also some of the largest global sources of investments in the manufacturing sector.
“TEDA hosted the virtual webinar with the purpose of attracting investment opportunities for the next generation models from BMW, Nissan and Ford to consider opening branches in Tshwane.”
He further explained that the key drive by TEDA was to position the Tshwane metro as a preferred destination to the European automotive sector.
“The webinar was also a platform to promote the industrial capacity of the city’s automotive production sector,” Lee said.
“TEDA will make follow-ups and engage the participants to encourage and sell Tshwane’s automotive special economic zone with the aim of translating these engagements into bankable investments and create job opportunities.”
