Tshwane kick-starts its road rehabilitation programme
For years motorists of Tshwane have been complaining about potholes that were making it difficult for them to navigate the roads.
The Tshwane metro announced this week that it has kick-started its road rehabilitation programme.
MMC for roads and transport Dikeledi Selowa said the programme has a budget allocation of R36-million and would focus on resurfacing roads within communities ensuring they met acceptable standards.
“The roads rehabilitation programme is a key service deliverable for our department as we try to respond to the decaying road infrastructure that has been left unattended by past administrations,” she said.
“Road resurfacing is a standard maintenance technique in which a new layer of material is laid over the existing surface instead of replacing the entire road.”
For years motorists of Tshwane have been complaining about potholes that were making it difficult for them to navigate the roads.
She said regular resurfacing particularly in high traffic areas would help to extend the lifespan of the road and ensure the safety of all road users.
“As a City, we came up with a plan to ensure we start resurfacing roads that need immediate attention,” she said.

The following areas will benefit from the resurfacing programme:
Region 1 – Soshanguve block AA and F
Region 3 – Hatfield, Arcadia, CBD, Atteridgeville
Region 4 – Louwlardia, Centurion
Region 6 – Waterkloof Glen and Silver Lakes
