Girlfriend murder accused appears in court

"Upon her discovery, some of her body parts were missing."

The case against a 34-year-old man for allegedly killing his girlfriend and burying her in a shallow grave near a river in Mathibestad was postponed.

Samuel John Noko Noko appeared in the Moretele magistrate’s court on Friday, for the alleged murder of Monni Monyeki (29).

His case has been moved to July 2, for legal representation and possible bail application.

Noko was allegedly the last past person to have been seen with Monyeki before she was reported missing by her aunt on May 29, according to NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame.

“The two allegedly left together to perform some rituals,” said Mamothame.

“Shortly afterwards, Noko was spotted pushing Monyeki in a wheelbarrow after she had consumed a substance that made her dizzy. She allegedly disappeared after this incident as she never showed up at her home [again].”

Mamothame said police investigations led them to the accused, who on June 12, pointed them to a shallow grave where he had allegedly buried Monyeki.

“Some of her body parts were missing.”

Noko was charged with murder and defeating the ends of justice.

An additional rape charge laid by a 14-year-old girl may also be added against Noko.

“The rape incident allegedly took place at the time when Monyeki was missing.”

Mamothame said Noko would remain in police custody until his next court appearance.
