Mams gogo celebrates 100 years

Gogo Magane said she is taking care of her body by eating healthy and keeps herself busy by doing household chores.

Gogo Maria Magane from Mamelodi East celebrated her 100th birthday on Youth Day.

The 100th birthday celebration was attended by family members, friends and neighbours at her home in Mamelodi East, section 13.

Gogo Magane was so happy and she could not hold back her tears of joy when she saw what her children and grandchildren did for her on her birthday.

One of her sons, Fanie Magane (69) said he lived with his mum, wife and four children and they love staying with gogo.

“The children’s love her so much because she tells them stories from the past,” said Fanie.

He said the secret for his mother living for a century and continue going strong, was that she was eating healthy and believed in God.

Even though she has lost almost all her teeth, gogo Magane loves eating meat, especially chicken, so much and she loves her meat over-cooked.

Gogo Magane said she is taking care of her body by eating healthy and keeps herself busy by doing household chores.

She encouraged the youth to stop drinking and smoking because it is bad for their health.

She never worked but managed to raise all nine her children with the money she made from selling Mageu and food for contract workers around Pretoria.

“I am so happy that my children and grandchildren had the opportunity to meet my mother at this age because many children don’t meet their great granny,” said Fanie.

Gogo Magane is the mother of nine children and a total of 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“My mother never had any challenges with her health, except recently when she started taking chronic medication for her high blood pressure,” said Fanie.

Gogo Magane teaches her grandchildren poems and enjoys watching traditional music on TV.

Smiling on her birthday surrounded by her family she said she is still as strong and healthy as an ox.

The Magane family wished their grandmother well to continue living a healthy life and keep on sharing her wisdom.
