Trio appear in court after sting operation

“Police recovered R10 000 entrapment money in cash.”

Three men appeared in the Temba magistrate’s court on Tuesday, after they were arrested on charges of corruption and extortion.

Their arrest followed a sting operation held in Temba, north of Pretoria on Monday, by the Hawks, according to spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu.

Lucky Molefe (37), an information officer from the Department of Health, along with his alleged accomplices, Thato Maphutha (34) and Tebogo Sidwell Matjila (44), allegedly denied access to contractors on a site in order for them to complete a project site in Temba.

“They allegedly demanded R10 000 from a prominent businessman based in Pretoria in order for him to complete his construction project at the Department of Health site in Temba.”

She said police were able to swiftly respond with an investigation team, which resulted in the apprehension of the trio at Temba service centre.

“Police recovered the R10 000 entrapment money in cash.”

They have since been granted R2 000 bail each.

Their case was postponed to July 29, for further investigation.
