Fake cops still doing ’rounds’ on the highway
Last month, a couple was hijacked, kidnapped and robbed in the east of Pretoria by three men posing as police officers.

Lyttelton police have again urged motorists to be on a lookout for bogus police operating on the N1 highway between Centurion and Midrand.
“There has been two hijacking cases reported in the past week at our station,” said Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller.
“In the past weeks, we saw a sharp increase of hijacking cases where victims were robbed by suspects driving what looked like a police vehicle. This past week, we had two cases opened.
“Suspects were impersonating traffic officers and forced motorists to stop,” he said.
Last month, a couple was hijacked, kidnapped and robbed in the east of Pretoria by three men posing as police officers.
The couple was driving on Delmas Road, near Rietvlei nature reserve, when a vehicle with flashing blue lights signalled them to stop.
After they stopped, the couple was forced out of their vehicle and into the suspects’ vehicle and were taken to an unknown house, where they were forced to transfer a large amount of cash. The couple was then taken back to their car unharmed.
“The best thing I can suggest is to always approach a roadblock with caution and if you feel unsafe, put your hazards on and drive to the nearest petrol station,” Miller said.
“If the cops are legitimate, they will acknowledge and follow you until you pull over at a public place like a garage.”
Miller also urged the public to adhere to curfew hours under Level 4 lockdown restrictions.
