Tshwane hits a record high in Covid-19 stats
The metro continues to witness significant week-on-week increases in the number of active cases with the most recent report indicating it has risen to a record high of 24 669.

Active Covid-19 cases in Tshwane hit a record high exceeding the 24 000 mark, Tshwane mayor Randall Williams announced on Tuesday.
Williams said the metro continued to witness significant week-on-week increases in the number cases with the most recent report indicating it has risen to a record high of 24 669 as of Monday, June 28.
“This is yet another exponential weekly increase indicative of the severity of infections in the current third wave,” Williams said.
“In the previous week, the number of cases stood at 17 130.”
“The figure of 24 669 active cases far exceeded the peak we experienced during the second wave which stood at around 16 000 cases.”
He said confirmed daily cases were increasing between record highs of 2 800 and 3 000 cases per day.
“I would like to encourage Tshwane residents to take note and adhere to the newly announced alert level 4 regulations,” he said.
“Equally we must also continue to practice safety measures such as wearing of masks, washing hands regularly and social distancing.
“Our vaccination sites remain open for eligible residents in this current phase of the vaccine roll-out.”
Walk-ins for persons 60 years and older are also allowed.
The following are Tshwane’s Covid-19 weekly statistics:
– Thursday, June 24: 3 149 new cases
– Friday, June 25: 2 814 new cases
– Saturday, June 26: 3 544 new cases
– Sunday, June 27: 3 040 new cases
– Monday, June 28: 2 878 new cases
