Tragic end to search for missing Cullinan man

The search for a 30-year-old Cullinan man came to a tragic end on Saturday morning, when his body was found in the area. Shane Jordaan went missing from a mental health institution in Rayton, Kairos House, north-east of Pretoria, on 4 June. Following a search by Deftac security, police, members of the community and the family, Shane’s body was discovered on the old Cullinan road (R513). “The morning started at 09:00, when I organised the second search party,” said Jomari Delport of Deftac security. “We got onto the Nooidgedacht road and actually changed the direction of the search.” She said an hour-and-a-half into the search, Shane’s body was found and positively identified. Delport, who along with other community groups had arranged several searches for Shane, said she hoped the discovery would help the family find closure. “It’s just one of those very sad endings,” she said. “We are glad we could find him and that the family can get some closure.” Shane’s sister, Christan, said the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss and was hoping to get answers on what happened to their brother. “We are not okay. We are heartbroken that we lost a sibling. My mother lost a child,” she said. “We are not able to sleep at night, but we are trying.” Christan said the family was scheduled to officially identify the body on Tuesday. “We want answers, but we still need to wait for the investigation to continue.” She thanked everyone for the messages of support and those who assisted with the search for her brother. Cullinan police spokesperson Constable Connie Moganedi also thanked all parties who were involved in the search and said police would continue to investigate the cause of death. “The management extends heartfelt condolences to the family and remains committed to continue with investigation that will reveal the cause of death and ultimately bring closure to the family and all loved ones,” she said.
