Man shot in Kameeldrift East
The wounded man and his wife was held hostage for three hours as their home was looted.
A man was shot three times outside his house in Haakdoornlaagte, Kameeldrift East on Tuesday.
The man, whose identity remains unknown for safety reasons, was shot after he went outside his house to check on a security camera that had been tampered with.
Pieter Pieterse, leader of sector 1 Kameeldrift CPF, said several shots were fired at the man, three of the shots hitting him in his thigh, hip and leg.
Three robbers then stormed the man’s house, finding his wife inside.
“They (robbers) held the couple hostage until around 02:00 the morning on July 7,” Pieterse said.
The robbers looted the house for jewellery, electronic equipment – including laptops and a television set, and also cellphones.
The robbers then fled with the stolen goods.
“After they had left, the lady took her husband to hospital,” said Pieterse.
“She only got back home around 06:00 and only then notified SAPS as well as trauma services.”
Pieterse said this was the third attack on the couple in only two years.
“I understand that it is very traumatic for the family, which is why we would not reveal their identity to give them privacy.”
The injured man was recovering in the ICU at a hospital.
“He recently underwent surgery to remove one of the bullets. Our prayers for a speedy recovery go to his family.”
Pieterse advised residents in the area to be vigilant and not go outside their homes if they suspect their security cameras or other property have been tampered with.
“Call for assistance from your neighbourhood watch and control rooms,” said Pieterse.
“We thank APA, SAPS Kameeldrift and Kameeldrift trauma unit for their assistance after this latest attack and ask our community to stay safe and keep a lookout for one another.”
