Volunteers assist to decontaminate Tshwane buildings
“With over 1.1 million hours spent by the Scientology volunteer ministers on the frontlines, they also announced that they have sanitised over 66 200 buildings across South Africa to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.”
Scientology volunteer minister responded to an emergency call from the city of Tshwane’s Centurion office after it had multiple positive Covid-19 cases this week.
The volunteer ministers rushed to sanitise the entire building to keep the employees and visitors safe. In doing so, they kept the municipal office open to serve the community, said public affairs director for the Scientology volunteer ministers, Sandile Hlayisi.
“The number of positive cases has been increasing at an alarming rate. This has led to dozens of municipal buildings having to deal with positive cases daily, putting strain on public service delivery.
“To tackle this, the non-profit organisation partnered with the city to help during all the waves of Covid-19. They do this by donating high standard decontamination services to the municipality.”
He said the pandemic has been tough for the hundreds of volunteer ministers who have not taken much time off since. But he claims all of them were very proud of what they did as they keep in mind at all times the purpose of what they are doing all this work for.
“It is our priority to take care of our city and country during these hostile times. The city of Tshwane has been contributing greatly by providing us with drivers who take our volunteers around the region to decontaminate affected areas. This has been a wonderful partnership and we are prepared to stand with them during the third wave,” said Hlayisi.
“With over 1.1 million hours spent by the Scientology volunteer ministers on the front lines, they also announced that they have sanitised over 66 200 buildings across South Africa to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.”
Tshwane mayor Randal Williams thanked the volunteers for all the work that they have been doing in terms of deep cleaning and supporting the city of Tshwane in the fight against Covid-19, said Hlayisi.
Hlayisi told of markedly increased emergency calls they have been receiving lately from across the country due to the third wave.
He said volunteers are aware of the threat Covid-19 poses, but that does not stop them doing this daily “as part of their humanitarian work to help mitigate the spread in the country, even putting their lives at risk”.
He said the volunteers also announced that they are prepared for whatever the third wave brings and will do their utmost best to continue to protect those at risk.
“It is a trait they have learned from the founder of their organisation, Ron Hubbard, and they are resolute to carry it on”.
According to Sipho Stuurman, spokesperson for the mayor’s office, said Scientology volunteers have been supporting various government entities and departments across the province with decontamination services.
“They have been doing this since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and have supported the city at times with decontamination in particular offices, buildings and vehicles,” Stuurman said.
“When the executive mayor was elected to office in November last year, an engagement was scheduled with the volunteers to publicly thank them,” Stuurman said.
He said the volunteers had since then been committed to supporting the city as Covid-19 has been spreading in facilities.
“They also have an established relationship with our group property department who at times will call on them to assist,” he said.
“This a relationship for which the city is most grateful as it ensures that we have a faster turnaround in re-opening our offices,” he said.
