‘Moderate’ drop in Tshwane Covid-19 active cases
“While the decrease in active cases is welcome, the third wave is still raging.”

Tshwane mayor Randall Williams has pleaded with residents to stick to Covid-19 precautionary measures, as the metro registered a drop in the number of Covid-19 active cases.
Williams said the city’s latest report showed active cases had slightly dropped to 25 491 as of Monday.
The slight decrease in active cases comes after weeks of record-high figures.
In the previous week, the number of cases stood at 26 796.
Despite the drop, Williams said confirmed daily cases were still steadily high, ranging between 2 000 and 3 000 cases per day.
Cases recorded from last week were as follows:
– Thursday: 2 607 new cases
– Friday: 3 373 new cases
– Saturday: 3 320 new cases
– Sunday: 2 861 new cases
– Monday: 2 723 new cases
“While the decrease in active cases is welcome, the third wave is still raging,” he cautioned.
“I would like to call on residents to not lower their guard and continue adhering to level 4 regulations, including wearing masks, sanitising and social distancing.”
Williams said it was a “modest reduction” in the number of active cases.
He said the metro was continuing with the roll-out of the mass vaccination programme and further accepted walk-ins at vaccination sites.
