Two reserves remain open during lockdown level 4

Only 50 cars per day will be allowed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

In line with section 24(1) of the current disaster management regulations, the metro will only open the Rietvlei and Groenkloof nature reserves for the duration of the level 4 lockdown period.

According to DA councillor Dana Wannenburg for Environment and Agriculture Management, all premises normally opened for public and recreational activities, such as resorts and angling sites, will be closed until July 25.

“During this period Rietvlei and Groenkloof nature reserves will be open for day visitors for self-drive game viewing under strict Covid-19 protocols.”

He said opening hours at Rietvlei will be as follows: On Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00 to 18:00, and days of the rest of the week, from 06:00 to 18:00.

“Groenkloof will be open daily from 06:00 to 18:00.”

Wannenburg said visitors are reminded of the following:
– only 50 cars per day will be allowed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
– No gatherings will be allowed in the reserves.
– Access will be restricted to certain areas in the reserves in line with Covid-19 protocols.
– Visitors must always wear masks and carry their own sanitisers.

He encouraged residents “to always adhere to all Covid-19 regulations”.
