Robbers hit on women while being pampered in Centurion

“We did not scream because they pointed their firearms at us instructing us to keep quiet.”

Two beauty parlours were reportedly robbed last week in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, by three gunmen.

They robbed women of their jewellery and phones, and also laptops were taken.

Analine du Toit (43) was a client at one of the beauty parlours when it was robbed last Wednesday at 11:20.

“I was lying on my back with my eyes taped shut having my lashes tinted, when I heard a male voice saying that he wanted to buy his girlfriend some products,” Du Toit said.

Melony Rousseau, manager of the parlour, said she was busy working on Analine when the receptionist answered the man that they only sell products online.

“He then requested a price list and entered. I got up and went into another room at that moment,” Rousseau said.

“However, when the receptionist turned to fetch him a price list, he took out a firearm and ordered her to sit in a chair. He searched her, while two more armed men entered. They took her smart watch and phone,” Rousseau said.

Rousseau said one of the men robbed her of her wedding ring, smart watch, earrings and phone. Also two laptops were robbed, one belonging to the parlour and the other to the receptionist. They also took another phone that belonged to the parlour.

“I saw that Analine was also being robbed. We did not scream because they pointed their firearms at us instructing us to keep quiet,” Rousseau said.

Du Toit said as she was still lying on the bed, she felt her smart watch and wedding ring being removed and could hear her bag being zipped open.

“They also robbed me of my car key and phone, but I believe they have not had enough time to find my car,” Du Toit said.

Du Toit said the robbers then shoved them into the kitchen and locked them up.

“Including the domestic worker, who had already been in the kitchen, there were four of us. They had also stolen the domestic worker’s phone. We pressed the panic button to no avail,” Du Toit said.

“We later learned the robbers made their way to another parlour in the vicinity, as we heard girls screaming hysterically while we were being locked up in the kitchen,” Du Toit said.

Du Toit said they have been locked up for an hour and a half before she managed to make her way through the roof.

“The receptionist had to also get into the roof to help me break out a piece of the ceiling in order for us to get access to the rest of the parlour through the bathroom, to unlock the kitchen door.”

Du Toit said only when they escaped from the kitchen, the panic button seemed to work and security responded.

“We had to wait for the police to take statements and learned the robbers indeed followed the same modus operandi at another beauty parlour in the vicinity.

“The girls involved said they had also been robbed of jewellery, phones and laptops, as well as a client’s car key. Her car key had, however, later been found in a flower pot in the area. We left at 16:15 as the police had not yet arrived.”

Du Toit said the incident was nevertheless reported to Wierdabrug police the following day.

Sergeant Divine Nkuna, spokesperson for Wierdabrug police, confirmed a case of business robbery was reported and is being investigated.

The owner of the other beauty parlour refused to comment.
