West police bust three for drug possession

"When police officers arrived at the scene, the man allegedly told them that he was selling dagga but was, however, out of stock."

Pretoria West police arrested three people, including a couple, for possession of drugs recently.

The arrests follow tip-offs to the station’s crime intelligence about people living at a Fredericks Street address dealing in drugs, said police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.

“Upon arrival, they found two occupants, namely a 27-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man. They requested the woman to empty her pockets and five white small powder packets suspected to be heroin fell out of her pockets. When she was asked what it was, she pointed to her boyfriend, saying it belonged to him.”

She said the couple was then arrested for possession of drugs.

On a separate incident on the same day, a 40-year-old man was arrested for the possession of dagga in Court Street.

When police officers arrived at the scene, the man allegedly told them that he was selling dagga but was, however, out of stock.

“Officers searched the house and found three plastic bags containing dagga. They also found 42 Ziploc packs filled with dagga. The dagga was confiscated.”

Vuma said the three suspects were arrested and detained at the Pretoria West police station.

She added that they will be appearing in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on charges of possession of drugs.

“Tip-offs are helping a lot in fighting drugs in the policing precinct,” said Vuma.

“We are pleading with community members to give us information about those involved with selling drugs in our community.”

She added that they were holding campaigns to inform residents of drug abuse in the area.

“Recently, we hosted a drug awareness campaign where we were urging residents to go to rehab.

“We want addicts to feel free to come to police for help as we are not happy about the drug problems community members are faced with.

“There are NGOs that can also help those struggling with addiction.”
