More sites open as 35-year-olds get ready to vaccinate

On July 15 registration for those aged 35-49 began and vaccination for this age group will commence on August 1.

As Covid-19 vaccination roll-out prepares to cater for those aged 35-49, the Tshwane metro has added three more vaccination sites.

“This will make it 29 [municipal] vaccination sites,” said metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba. The number for privately-run vaccinations sites is 38.

“Two of the new sites are located in region 7 and the third one in region 6.”

Registration for those aged 35-49 began on July 15. Vaccination for this age group will kick off on August 1.

The additional sites are: NG Moreletapark Church 1353 De Villebois Mareuil Drive, Pretoriuspark, section D; Bronkhorstpruit sports centre 32 Olifant Crescent Street, Bronkhorstspruit as well as the Ekangala community hall number 1108, section D, Ekangala.

As of Monday, 12 July, the active cases had dropped from last week’s 26 796 to 25 491.

Tshwane mayor Randall Williams said the new sites were a major boost in the fight against Covid-19.

He encouraged people in these age groups to use the opportunity to protect themselves again the virus.

In the meantime, Tshwane was continuing with its mass vaccination programme for those 50 and older.

“We also accept walk-ins at our vaccination sites for persons that are 60 years and older.”

These sites are spread across metro to make it easy for residents to access services nearer to their homes.
