Trio nabbed for extortion in the east
The suspects were arrested after forcing the developer to stop the project unless they are offered a share.

Three people were arrested for extortion and intimidation this week in Silverton.
The suspects were arrested after forcing a developer to stop a project they are working on unless they are offered a share, said police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.
He said the trio appeared at the Pretoria magistrates’ court on Wednesday facing charges of extortion, harassment and intimidation.
The police’s provincial task team based at Tshwane District was notified of the intimidation and immediately proceeded to the scene and found the suspects who were stopping the project.
Masondo said the three suspects were immediately arrested and charged with intimidation, harassment and extortion.
Gauteng Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Tommy Mthombeni welcomed the arrests and emphasised that those who interfered with legally operating developers would be dealt with decisively.
“We will not allow hooligans who will act against legal projects and pursue their unlawful conducts by harassing and intimidating other people,” he said.
