Mams famous DJ plough back to the community

DJ Dinho devotes to 67 minutes to community service

A well-known DJ from Mamelodi donated 100 food parcels to local indigent families affected by the economic meltdown caused by the Covid-19 lockdown.

Tiego Motau, also known as DJ Dinho, gave up some of his time on July 18, to honour Nelson Mandela by serving the community of Mamelodi.

“This is part of giving back to the fans and the community of Mamelodi for supporting DJ Dinho events,” said a spokesperson for Dinho, Mongezi Thabethe.

“The aim of donating food parcels is to reduce hunger in families through the provision of nutritious meals.”

The 100 families, who received donations, got maize meal, rice, tin food, soya beans, tea bags, sugar, cooking oil, detergents and veggies.

Potential beneficiaries were interviewed before they could qualify for the food parcels.

Thabethe said 100% unemployed families were the first priority as well as families with a combined monthly income of less than R3 600 and child-headed families whereby the parents or breadwinners are deceased.

“Families with more than five members received two food parcels; and if there are more than 10 family members, the family will receive three food parcels,” said Thabethe.

The Dinho Mandela Day food parcels will continue for the next three months, taking care of the families.

“It does not end here,” said DJ Dinho.

He encouraged beneficiaries to sign up with the Entokozweni resources centre-miag skills development programme and job centre.

“This is in line with the national development plan 2030 which calls on citizens to go from being passive to active citizens who contribute meaningfully to the mainstream economy.

“Within these programmes, beneficiaries are exposed to formal job placement and various income-generating projects so that the families can safely exit the three-months food relief programme,” said DJ Dinho.

The official handover of food parcel was held at KO Mafatshe in Mamelodi east on Sunday.

Nelson Mandela international day was declared by the United Nations general assembly on July 18, 2009 in recognition of the contributions made by Mandela, and calls for every patriotic citizen to play their part in changing the status quo.
