An iStore at the Woodlands Boulevard mall was robbed on Thursday morning.
The incident took place around 08:00 when an unknown number of men entered the electronics store and stole some devices on display.
“Yesterday we received a call for back-up from Woodlands mall security informing us that there was a robbery in progress at the iStore,” said Bull security spokesperson French Jooste.
“Our units swiftly responded, on our way to Woodlands mall the suspects, who were driving in two cars, were spotted fleeing towards Mamelodi.”
Jooste said the tactical unit spotted the suspects’ vehicle and a high-speed chase ensued.
“During the chase, which saw various other security companies join in, the suspects lost control over their vehicle and made an accident on Atterbury Drive.
“Two men were arrested. Unfortunately, the other getaway vehicle managed to get away in the direction of Mamelodi,” he said.
The marketing and communications officer for Fidelity Services Group Charnel Hattingh said two
suspects were apprehended as they were attempting to get away in a grey VW Polo and they were cornered.
“It is encouraging to see that the introduction of the shopping centre tactical teams is yielding positive results,” she said.
“In the past few months, our teams have been able to successfully prevent armed robberies and also catch perpetrators. I commend the teams for their good work.”
Confirming the robbery, Woodlands mall said in a statement an undisclosed amount of display stock was stolen and one shot was fired at centre security outside.
“There were no injuries. Two vehicles were involved. One vehicle has been apprehended by Bull Security and one firearm has been recovered.
“Fidelity ADT, Bull Security as well as SAPS were on the scene within minutes. Investigations are underway.”
Police were yet to comment at the time of going to print.
