Le Clos barely reaches 200m butterfly semi-finals in Tokoyo
Le Clos secured the final spot of the top 16 on Monday to qualify for the highly contested Olympics Tokyo semi-finals.
Chad Le Clos, South African top swimmer and Olympic Champion, narrowly qualified for the 200m butterfly event in Tokyo on Monday.
With the swimming sensation finishing fifth in the last heat of the qualifiers with a time of 1:55.96, it was quite nerve-wracking to wait and see whether he had qualified for the Tokyo Olympics semi-finals.
During his swimming race, Le Clos faced off against the Hungarian world record-holder Kristof Milak who won the heat in a time of 1:53.58.
Le Clos barely made it by securing the final spot of the top 16 to qualify for the semi-finals. Le Clos is set to compete tomorrow at 11:35.
Le Clos won gold during the 2012 London Olympics for the 200m butterfly.
Fellow South African swimmer, 17-year-old Ethan du Preez, who was also in Le Clos’ heat failed to qualify for the semi-finals finishing in eighth place with a time of 1:58.50.
