Spokesperson of Tshwane emergency services, Charles Mabaso, said they received a call just after 22:00.

The first engine on the scene reported that the building was fully engulfed in flames and they immediately initiated a fire attack.

“The crews managed to extinguish the fire after they were backed up by resources from three additional stations,” he said.

Store manager of SPAR in Daspoort Leon Kruger said the extent of the damages has not yet been determined and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

“The SPAR is closed until further notice.

“We are still awaiting a detailed report as to what might have caused the fire, before we can start cleaning the inside of the store.

“Community members have already approached us to offer their help in the rebuilding process,” said Kruger.

Chairperson of Hercules CPF Johan van Staden said the fire started inside the building.

“We left the scene at around 00:20.

“I want to thank Tshwane metro who immediately closed the roads, the various security and ambulance services that came out to assist as well as the community members that lend a hand where needed,” he said.

According to Best Care emergency services spokesperson Xander Loubser, no injuries or smoke inhalation incidents were reported.

“We thank the team of firefighters for doing their best.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to SPAR as we can relate to the damage and trauma they suffered since we at Best Care were victims of a petrol-bomb attack in March 2021,” said Loubser.
